If you are a dog owner, then you know how important it is to ensure that your dog is healthy and in good shape at all times. After all, you want him or her to live a long and happy life. There are many ways to go about doing this, such as by feeding your dog a balanced diet and ensuring that he or she stays active. However, finding new and exciting ways to keep your dog active can be difficult, especially if you feel limited by a small yard or lack of available walking paths in your neighborhood.

So if you are looking to keep your dog active, you may want to look into taking him or her to a local dog park on a regular basis. Not only is this a great way to give your pooch the opportunity to run around freely, but it will also allow him or her to meet and play with other dogs in the process. Not to mention, you may even get a workout at the dog park, making this a win-win situation for both parties involved!

So if you are looking for fun activities for you and your dog to try together, check out a local dog park today.

Most Americans depend on their car to go everywhere. If you are one of those people, then you may want to consider walking more instead of driving. Walking is one of the simplest exercises that you can do. You can do it almost anywhere at any time, so you can very easily squeeze it into your busy day.

If you live within two miles of your job, then you should consider walking a couple of days out of the week. You can park further away from the entrance if you are not within walking distance of work. You should also consider walking to the store sometimes.

Additionally, you should get your family to walk with you. Walking is an exercise that the entire family can do, regardless of their fitness level. You all can go for an hour long walk instead of watching television. You all can also go for weekend walks instead of weekend drives.

This is not an uncommon scene around the family dinner table; children and adults alike pushing steamed veggies around their plate and never taking a bite, or even worse, full on temper tantrums at the mere mention of the word broccoli. Have you ever found yourself feeling like the role of dungeon keeper while simply trying to get the kids to eat a healthy meal? Well here is a news flash, eating right doesn’t need to mean suffering!

One of the key’s to getting everyone to eat right is to conceal offending vegetables. A great tip for this is to mix them into sauces. Try using a food processor to grind a hefty portion of vitamin rich foods into a pulp before mixing them into a spaghetti sauce.

It can also be helpful to remove less healthy options from the menu completely. Try buying whole grain bread and pastas, use brown rice instead of white. For snacks, try dried fruit. Some fantastic food companies make delicious snacks of dried fruit covered in dark chocolate, these have very little fat and sugar and appeal to everyone in the family.

Remember it’s always best to lead by example. If you can eat well, the rest of the family is sure to follow.

What better way to shop for healthy foods at the grocery than by doing it with your family? When it comes time to restock the cabinets and refrigerator, go to the store together so that everyone has an input on what to get for the meals for the week. Each person can choose the healthy foods he or she likes to eat. You can decide on meals that the entire family will like instead of making the decision yourself and the family not eating anything.

Begin your shopping trip in the product department. Let each person pick their favorite fruit and vegetable. You can put each fruit in a bowl at home so that everyone has the chance to get a fresh fruit during the week. Make a vegetable tray with the vegetables and serve each person’s favorite dressing in a small cup. When you reach the bread section, offer a few choices of wheat and whole grain breads. Choose two of these to make sandwiches with through the week. Let each person pick a meat that will be used in the main course of each meal. Try to stay away from meats that have fat in them. Avoid the aisles with the chips and cookies, and head to the dairy section to pick out several cups of yogurt for each person.

Playground and outdoor play environments can be a wonderful chance for children to enjoy themselves, make new friends and get the exercise needed to maintain a greater state of health. Exploring your neighborhood and city in an effort to find the best swings, slides and other equipment available means that your children will never have to lack for a place to play. Making a day trip to the best playgrounds in the city can be a fun and enjoyable experience for the entire family.

Local parks and playground options could be less than ideal, leaving your kids without much opportunity when it comes to finding things to do. Ensuring that they have frequent and regular access to playgrounds that can offer superior equipment and opportunities to play could make a big difference in their options. While smaller playgrounds and basic equipment may be all that is needed to satisfy smaller children, making sure that older kids have access to more age-appropriate choices and options can be an important assets in your efforts to get the off the couch and active. Playgrounds that have more to offer can be of far more value to your kids, finding them and ensuring access for your kids is an important undertaking.

Family friendly sports clubs in your area can offer the entire household the chance to enjoy a stimulating and rewarding range of sports and activities. If your family is interested in ways to have fun, get more exercise and find new ways to enjoy the time you have to spend together, a sports club could be just the answer you have been in search of. Locating a sports club that can offer age appropriate activities and resources for the youngest members of your household as well as options for their parents can give you many opportunities to take advantage of when it comes to your next family outing.

Clubs, gyms and other options that are just for kids or have only options and resources that parents may be able to enjoy could be a missed opportunity for families that are in search of something more. Fitness activities, sports and other resources that can give your whole family the chance to get more exercise can be a lot of fun. Looking into the clubs that may be available in your area and exploring what each has to offer will ensure that your household does not lack for a family friendly sports club. The information doesn’t stop now. Keep looking: Government threat to local sports clubs

There are great reasons to force your family off the couch and around the block. Few people realize the myriad health benefits gained by living a more active lifestyle. We also tend to overlook the value of quality time spent with our families.

Walking is a low intensity cardiovascular exercise. It is good for you without requiring that you end up drenched in sweat and sore for days. The truth is that many of us have very sedentary lifestyles and any exercise is an improvement over our daily routine. Walking burns fat, increases circulation, and there is ongoing research investigating the link between walking and the body’s ability to fight off Alzheimer’s disease. Walking with your family will give you and them some exercise but will also impart the good habits of an active lifestyle on your children.

Family strolls around the block will teach other good habits on the kids as well. It is a rare moment, in today’s technology filled world, for parents to have time with their kids without some type of media distraction. Take the family for a walk and you create time to talk with your children. Most of us have realized that if we don’t deliberately create time with our kids, then we do not get time with our kids.

A walk around the block is a great opportunity to rediscover your neighborhood, your neighbors, maybe even your kids, and you can call it exercise too!
